Nowadays, packaging is a part of every product. When the product is used up, the packaging is thrown away and, from an attractive product, it becomes a factor of the environmental pollution. If we look at the developed countries, we can see that it does not have to be that way, since in those countries the packaging is sorted and recycled. Depending on the degree of organization of individual countries, it varies from 35% to 85% of collected and recycled waste.

In the last three years, the enterprise SANIPLAST d.o.o. from Gornji Milanovac has continuously been developing and improving the environmental management system. We have realized that a used PET bottle is not rubbish but secondary raw material that can be recycled. By doing this, we protect the environment and save an important amount of foreign currency and our country is less dependent on raw material import.

We have tackled this problem seriously and accomplished appropriate positive results. Bearing in mind problems of the environmental pollution related to plastic packaging waste (PET bottles) that the wider community has, the enterprise SANIPLAST solves this problem by recycling the waste, with its own investment in knowledge and technology of recycling of waste PET packaging. We have recycling capacity of 70 tons per month. According to the official data, in our country 2,000 tons of PET waste accumulate and, our recycling participates with 3 – 3.5% in relation to overall amount of PET waste. In order to reduce the above mentioned facts, it is necessary to work more on animation of the citizens as well as the wider community on sorting and separating this kind of used packaging and that the least possible amount of that waste is disposed of in landfills. In that manner, the usage period of landfill is 35% longer than at present.

By its constant involvement and precisely defined goals, the enterprise SANIPLAST performs constant actions in order to collect waste PET plastics and, with this objective, it visits local self-governments throughout Serbia and offers specific solutions.
